White Shrimp

White shrimp (Litopenaeus setiferus L.) are widely used for bait in the recreational fishery and commercially harvested for food. This species composes most of the Wild Georgia Shrimp harvest. Look for and enjoy fresh Georgia shrimp in our local restaurants.
South Atlantic Quarantine Station 1895

Blackbeard Island Wildlife Refuge, a frequent destination, was once a Quarantine Station for ships visiting the U.S. South Atlantic ports.

Ships coming into this area picking up lumber and timber that required quarantine inspection would have to be inspected at Blackbeard Island. Today all that remains at this site is a pile of ballast rocks off the north end of Blackbeard called the Quarantine Station.
