FROM HANK AND EDNA TERRELL of California
My wife and I are native Georgians. She is from Macon, I am from Savannah. We live in California. Several years ago we purchased a home on the water in McIntosh County. Wanting to reacquaint ourselves with coastal Georgia, we arranged an afternoon tour of the McIntosh area waters with Captain Baisden. We departed from the Blue N Hall marina for a tour out to beautiful Sapelo Island, Blackbeard Island and in the distance Saint Catherine’s island. Ginny told us all about the local marshes and tiny islands that dot the area. We enjoyed seeing many species of birds, an alligator on a distant river shore, as well as dozens of dolphins and even a giant ray that swam under the boat with its wings extending beyond the sides of the boat. We discovered, to our delight, Ginny is knowledgeable about the history of the area around Darien and the local coast. She pointed out relics from the past timber era and its affect upon the geography of the area, educated us about the fishing economy and the fisherman’s lifestyle, and the intra-coastal waterway.
Later on, we purchased a boat of our own, and Captain Baisden has been teaching us about navigation and the local waterways and off-shore fishing. We continue to have many adventures on the waters with Captain Baisden and always look forward to our next trip.
She has provided us with many hours of entertainment and has educated us about seamanship as well as the local waters, fish, birds, flora and fauna.
